VibeVoice vs The Market

Seven comparisons against the tools people actually weigh us against — on operating system coverage, price, streaming latency and what happens to your audio. Each one names what the other product does better, because a comparison that cannot do that is not worth reading.

A glass prism lit and facing forward, with six anonymous empty plinths standing behind it.

Why “finished text” and not a latency figure

Dictate for an hour into a tool that transcribes on your own machine, and the work starts when you stop. At the roughly four-times-realtime that a local model manages on current Apple hardware, that is about fifteen minutes of waiting. Dictate for an hour into VibeVoice and the hour is already transcribed — what is left is the last sentence.

We measured that remainder rather than estimating it: the time from the final word to the final piece of text, with audio fed at the speed a person actually speaks. Median 481 ms, 95th percentile 522 ms, over 27 runs. It does not grow with the recording — 487 ms after an 11-second clip against 316 ms after a 141-second one — because the transcription happened during the dictation rather than after it. The script is server_side/tests/research/measure_stream_tail.py.

Prices are what a customer in Germany pays. VibeVoice adds no VAT (small-business scheme, § 19 UStG), so our figure is final; the US vendors list net prices and an EU checkout adds 19%, so their gross figure is shown with the list price beneath it. Converted at the ECB reference rate of 1.1593 USD/EUR on 2026-08-17. Prices, platforms and free tiers checked August 2026 — vendors change all three, so check theirs before buying.
