Which should you pick, VibeVoice or Talon Voice?
Pick Talon if you cannot use a keyboard and need to drive the whole machine by voice — cursor, menus, commands, code — and are willing to learn a command grammar and install and maintain a config repository. Pick VibeVoice if you can still use a keyboard and want to stop typing prose.
Talon is the more capable tool and is free. It is also a system you configure rather than an app you install, and for someone who just wants dictation that works this afternoon, that is the wrong trade.

Choose Talon Voice if…
- You cannot use a keyboard or mouse at all and need full hands-free control of your computer, not just text entry. Talon is a genuinely remarkable accessibility tool and VibeVoice does not attempt this.
- You want to script your own voice commands in Python and build a custom grammar around your work.
- You need voice-driven code navigation and editing with a custom command set.
Choose VibeVoice if…
- You want to dictate prose without learning a command language or writing configuration first — one hotkey, working within a minute of installing.
- You want to dictate in more than one language, without a command grammar for each.
- You want to upload a recording and get the text back, which Talon does not do.
VibeVoice vs Talon Voice: common questions
Is VibeVoice an alternative to Talon for RSI?+
Partly, and it depends what your hands can still do. If typing hurts but you can use a mouse and a hotkey, VibeVoice removes most of the typing with no setup. If you need to drive the entire machine by voice, Talon does that and we do not.
Do I need to write configuration to use VibeVoice?+
No. Install it, link it to your account, press the hotkey and speak. Talon’s power comes from a scriptable grammar, and that same design is why it takes time before it is useful.
Can I use both?+
Yes, and some people do: Talon for navigation and commands, VibeVoice for dictating longer prose, where you would rather speak the sentence than the commands that shape it.
